For movie buffs, quarantine produced the perfect storm to halt summer blockbusters. For people who were looking forward to titles like Black Widow, Tenet, Wonder Woman 84, and more, the past several months have been pretty small screen–heavy.
Now, more places are starting to get into the drive-in theater game, and we couldn't be more excited! One such place is Walmart, which seems odd at first. But we're willing to roll with it for a chance to get out of the house! Here are some ways to still get away during COVID.
Here's where and how to watch Walmart's drive-in movies, plus the full list of titles.
It's super convenient—and free!
You read that right. There's no cost associated with coming to Walmart for a drive-in screening, so this is already better than going to a regular movie theater. That said, you'll have to request tickets in advance, so don't delay; head over to the Walmart Drive-in website to secure your spot. And if you're going to shop, you should know about these things you won't see in Walmart anymore.
The screenings started on August 14 and will continue through October 21, 2020. Guests can start showing up at 6 p.m. on the day of the event, and the movies start at 7:30 p.m. Make sure you're on time, because they're not allowing late admission, and you'll have to have a car to attend. If you need to leave your vehicle, you'll also need a face mask. You're not allowed to bring alcohol, so load up on other, non-boozy beverages!
The only real catch is that these aren't being offered at every Walmart (and some have sold out already), so you'll have to check to see whether your local store is taking part. If not, some of your local restaurants might be hosting drive-in theaters.
What is playing at the Walmart Drive-In?
Not all drive-ins are showing all of the movies, so you'll have to check with your Walmart to see what they're showing. The list of potential movies, straight from Walmart's website, is as follows:
Wonder Woman
PG-13 | 2h 21min | 2017
Spy Kids
PG | 1h 28min | 2001
Space Jam
PG | 1h 28min | 1996
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
PG | 1h 57min | 2018
Ghostbusters
PG | 1h 45min | 1984
The Wizard of Oz
PG | 1h 42min | 1939
Black Panther
PG-13 | 2h 14min | 2018
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
PG | 1h 55min | 1982
Friday Night Lights
PG-13 | 1h 58min | 2004
Maybe there are no brand-new blockbusters—but that's not a bad lineup! If you'd rather stay at home, here's everything you need for a DIY backyard movie night.
