Why buy American?

Whenever an American buys an American-made product, a little red, white, and blue angel gets their wings. You know what else happens? The purchase becomes more than just a purchase. It becomes an investment in the future of the American economy. That's because a purchase increases the demand for whatever you just purchased. Demand increases price until supply increases to meet it, which will require more people to work, which allows more money to be spent. If people are spending on American things, the cycle continues. If they're spending on imports, then the dollars they used disappear with the purchase.

If that seems a bit abstract, try to think of it as a game of Monopoly. If all the players were to keep taking their Monopoly money off the table rather than buying up Monopoly properties, the game would grind to a halt. In other words, when you buy American made things, you're helping keep the money on the table. When you buy imports, you're taking it off the table.

In other words, buying American can actually make a difference. So, if you're interested in keeping some of that money on the table for real, then it's a good idea to consider making an effort to patronize American business. If you want to be part of that, check to see if whatever store you're browsing has a "Made in America" or "Made in the U.S.A." department or search capability. Examples include Amazon, Walmart, QVC, and Bed Bath & Beyond.
